city has shut down 15 illegal hotels following a major sting operation

The city has shut down 15 illegal hotels following a major sting operation, Mayor Bloomberg said yesterday.The hotels, in Manhattan and Brooklyn, were forced to stop taking guests, and some were slapped with fines of up to $2,500 for each violation.
The offenses ranged from overcrowding and inadequate smoke alarms to blocked fire exits.The sting began May 1, when a state law targeting illegal hostels took effect.Read more:
